The organ at St. Marien Church in Uelzen, built by Hermann Eule Orgelbau in 2001, stands within the historic organ case created by Johann Georg Stein between 1752 and 1756. This impressive organ case is a key artistic feature of the region, and during the major organ renovation in 2001, efforts were made to restore it to its original state as much as possible. The organ itself, however, has evolved significantly since Stein’s time, with modern features such as a large setzer system incorporated into the design during the 2001 rebuild.
The current organ is a synthesis of late baroque and early romantic German organ building traditions, making it suitable for performing music from various periods, including works by composers like Bach, Mendelssohn, Liszt, and Reger. While no historical pipework survived from earlier instruments, the restoration has carefully balanced modern technology with traditional sound aesthetics. This organ is now the largest in the Lüneburg region and plays a central role in the church's musical activities.
