The St. Petri Church in Osten has a long history of organ building, with the first mention of an organ dating back to 1581. Following the church's reconstruction between 1745 and 1748, a new organ was built by Jakob Albrecht of Lamstedt, completed in 1754. This instrument was later replaced in 1890 by a new organ from the Gebrüder Peternell of Thuringia, who retained the original 18th-century Baroque organ facade (Prospekt) designed by Albrecht. This new organ introduced a romantic sound characteristic of the period.

In 1991, the organ underwent a significant restoration by the Swiss company Kuhn (Männedorf). Today, the instrument boasts 26 registers spread across the Hauptwerk, Schwellwerk, and Pedal, maintaining its historical and musical significance while reflecting the developments in organ building over the centuries. The preservation of the original Albrecht Prospekt alongside the Peternell organ's romantic sound palette highlights the church's rich musical heritage.
