The St. Wulphardi Church in Freiburg has a rich history of organ music dating back to the 16th century. The original organ underwent several repairs and modifications over the centuries, with notable work by famous organ builders such as Hans Scherer the Younger and Arp Schnitger in the 17th century. Despite significant damage from a storm in 1825, the church continued to maintain its organ, which was reinstalled in the newly rebuilt church in 1837.

In 1986, a major restoration and reconstruction of the organ was carried out by the Alfred Führer organ building company, incorporating elements from its historical predecessors. This restoration aimed to return the organ to its 18th-century configuration while also preserving the valuable old pipes and adding new ones to complete the instrument. The result is an organ that blends historical authenticity with rich, colorful tones, representing a five-century legacy of organ craftsmanship and music at St. Wulphardi Church. The organ underwent further maintenance in 2013 to address damage caused by lead corrosion, ensuring its continued use in worship and concerts.
