The organ, originally built by Schulze (Paulinzella/Thuringia) in 1873, has undergone several significant changes. The first set of modifications occurred in the 1950s by the Kemper company. During this process, the old wind system was discarded, the organ repositioned, and the housing cut off, along with the implementation of a freestanding pipe arrangement.

About twenty years later, the organ underwent further changes when Tolle company from Preetz added an oboe and a local carpenter rebuilt the upper part of the housing. The organ then acquired a new sonic exterior.

Subsequently the organ builder Paschen restored the organ back to its original state. The wind chests, the stop and key mechanisms, the console, and the original pipes were renovated. Despite the restoration, some differences from the original design persist. The oboe 8' was retained in place of the trumpet 8', and the second manual continues to hold a likely non-original octave 2'.
