The organ in question was built by Rudolf von Beckerath Orgelbau in Hamburg in 1950. Following the Second World War, the Laeiszhalle, which survived almost unscathed, got a modern concert organ with a neo-baroque character installed according to the prevailing taste at the time. The young Rudolf von Beckerath, who had just started out on his own, was allowed to construct this instrument.

However, as the years went by, the sound of the Beckerath organ was considered increasingly inappropriate, causing it to fall into oblivion. Currently, a new construction is planned in the form of a copy of the original Walcker organ that is to be completed by the end of the renovation of the hall.

The Beckerath organ was sold to the Münchberg City Church Community in Upper Franconia for a token price of 1 Euro and is expected to be set up there in 2023/24.

Several refurbishments were made to the organ over the years. In 1968 and 1972, renovations were carried out by Rudolf von Beckerath, who integrated the Dulcian 16' into the organ. Further modifications were made in 1992 and 1994, including disabling the Barker machine that was present till then, as well as adding and electrifying the couplings. In 2010, a general cleaning of the organ was performed by the Beckerath workshop.

The reconstruction of the Walcker organ, built in 1907, is planned for completion by autumn 2026 in the Laeiszhalle. The reconstruction is to be carried out by the Klais and Lenter companies.
