Marin Carouge (ca 1669-1735) was a notable organ builder and organist originating from Paris. He moved to Ornans in the Franche-Comté region, where he established his career. Carouge was the son of Jacques Carouge, who held the title of "organ builder to the king." Marin continued the family tradition, becoming the third generation of Carouges involved in organ building. His work spanned various regions, including significant projects in Clermont-Ferrand, Périgueux, and throughout the Jura region.
Throughout his career, Marin Carouge completed numerous notable organ-building projects. In 1707, he built an organ for the abbey in Beaumont, and in 1721, he constructed the organ for the Saint-Cyr Sainte-Juliette church in Champagnole. Carouge's works were characterized by his ability to integrate his instruments within the architectural and acoustic settings of the churches, often maintaining the stylistic integrity of the Baroque period. His legacy includes the 1727 organ in La Chaise-Dieu, which is still celebrated today through the efforts of local associations dedicated to preserving his contributions to organ music. Marin Carouge passed away in Ornans in 1735, leaving behind a rich legacy in the field of organ building.
