The company was originally founded as an organ-building workshop in 1847 by Adolf Fredrik Pettersson. He later passed it on to his son, Gustaf Adolf Pettersson. In 1897, the business was taken over by his son, Olof Hammarberg, marking the beginning of its association with the Hammarberg name. Over its long history, the company became renowned for its craftsmanship in organ building and restoration.
