I. Starup & Søn was a prominent Danish organ-building company based on Fælledvej in Nørrebro, Copenhagen. The firm was founded in 1858 by Knud Olsen, a Norwegian-born organ builder. Following his death in 1898, the company was taken over by his son-in-law, Carl Imanuel Starup, who continued to expand and develop the business. In 1932, Carl’s son, Axel Starup, took over, ensuring the continuation of the company’s legacy in high-quality organ craftsmanship.
The company remained active for over a century, undergoing a transition in 1976 when Albert Lang took over management. In 1982, I. Starup & Søn transitioned to employee ownership before eventually being dissolved in 1986. During its operation, the firm became known for its excellence in organ construction and restoration, contributing significantly to Denmark's musical heritage.
