Antonio Alberdi, born in Durango in 1893 and passing away in Bilbao in 1986, was a multifaceted Basque organ builder, organist, and composer who eventually settled in Barcelona. As a composer trained under Manuel Burgés, Alberdi made a significant mark in the music scene, particularly after winning second prize at a choral works competition organized by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia at the age of twenty-seven. This recognition propelled his career forward, leading to performances of his works at prominent venues like the Palau de la Música and the Teatre Tívoli in Barcelona. A notable moment in his career was in 1945 when a tribute was held at the Palau de la Música, featuring recitals of his lieder with prominent artists and Alberdi himself accompanying on piano. His extensive body of work includes the distinguished "Sinfonía Vasca" for organ.

Beyond his contributions to music composition, Alberdi was also deeply involved in organ construction. Post-World War II, he collaborated with "Organería Española S.A.," a company based in Azpeitia, playing a crucial role in building many of the organs found in Catalonia from 1945 to 1975. His legacy in the field of organ construction is commemorated in Barcelona, where a street in the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi neighborhood has been named in his honor. Through his dual talents in both music composition and organ construction, Alberdi left a lasting impact on the cultural and musical heritage of the Basque and Catalan regions.
