The St. Bartholomäus Church in Kirchwalsede houses a historic organ built in 1878 by the firm Philipp Furtwängler & Söhne. The organ originally had 12 registers distributed across two manuals and a pedal, reflecting a typical romantic era design. However, over the years, the organ underwent significant changes. In 1945, the organ suffered damage when unknown vandals destroyed over 100 pipes and parts of the action. A year later, the organ was "baroque-ized" by Paul Ott, who replaced some of the original romantic stops with more "baroque" sounding stops such as Quintadena and Krummhorn.
Further modifications occurred in 1960 and 1966, affecting the organ's air supply system and positioning of the motor. It wasn't until 1985 that the organ was restored to its original 1878 disposition by the company Führer (Wilhelmshaven), which involved removing the later alterations and reinstating the original stops. In 2007, the organ underwent a cleaning and additional minor restoration by Stefan Linke, ensuring its continued function and historical integrity.
