The St. Georg Church in Gartow, built by court architect Johann Caspar Borchmann in 1723/1724, houses the only known organ by the Lüneburg organ builder Johann Matthias Hagelstein, completed in 1740. This organ is notable for its richly gilded appearance, reflecting the grand aspirations of its patron, Count Andreas Gottlieb von Bernstorff. Unlike typical North German organs of the 17th century, it lacks a Rückpositiv, a secondary organ section usually placed behind the player. The instrument features 23 registers spread across Hauptwerk, Oberwerk, and Pedal divisions.

Over the centuries, the Hagelstein organ underwent several modifications and restorations, including a significant restoration in 1991 by Gebr. Hillebrand Orgelbau. The organ is celebrated for its historical significance and is regularly featured in concerts during the Gartower Orgel-Sommer and Sunday services, showcasing its distinct Baroque sound to the public. The organ's rich tonal palette and historical importance make it a valuable cultural and musical asset.
