The Bürgermeister-Smidt-Gedächtniskirche in Bremerhaven features an organ built by the renowned organ builder Rudolf von Beckerath in 1986. This instrument replaced earlier organs, including one by Philipp Furtwängler from 1856, which was destroyed in a bombing in 1944, and another by Walcker from 1964, which had significant structural and tonal issues. The Beckerath organ was designed in the style of the French Romantic period and has undergone several enhancements since its installation.
In 1999, Hamburg organ builder Hans-Ulrich Erbslöh added a Spanish Trumpet to the Hauptwerk, enhanced the setter system, and revoiced the organ. Further improvements were made in 2016, including the addition of a 32' Subbass in the Pedal, making the organ the largest in Bremerhaven with 47 registers and over 3500 pipes. This instrument now supports a wide range of liturgical and concert uses, showcasing its robust and versatile sound.
