The organ of the parish church of Sant Pere i Sant Pau in Algaida, Mallorca, is a historic Baroque instrument built in 1647 by master organ builder Guillem Barrera. It replaced a smaller, earlier organ that had been in place since at least 1582 but had fallen into disuse after the death of its organist. The new organ was commissioned by the town council, funded by local resources and donations, and built directly in Algaida. It originally featured around 280 pipes, with an ornate case and decorative curtain. The instrument was examined and approved by Fra Vicenç Pizà, a Dominican organist.
Over the centuries, the organ underwent several interventions. Notably, Jordi Bosch, one of Spain’s most renowned organ builders, carried out a major reconstruction in 1770, expanding the number of pipes and adding a new keyboard, secret (windchest), and corneta stop. In the 19th and 20th centuries, further modifications—including a reed stop by Antoni Portell and a problematic pneumatic conversion in 1958—altered its character. A restoration effort led by Pere Reynés began in 1989, reviving the original keyboard and much of the Baroque structure. Though not yet fully complete (pedal stops remain to be installed), the organ is in good condition, regularly used, and tuned to a historical pitch of A = 415 Hz.
