The organ was built by Furtwängler & Hammer in 1931 under the influence of Hamburg organ reformer Hans Henny Jahnn, making it one of the earliest examples of the Hamburg organ movement. This organ was one of the first of its kind in Germany to reintroduce slider chests and a mechanical key action. Additionally, it was also arranged in a unique way with the registers divided into "masculine" and "feminine". This concept was inspired from Aristide Cavaillé-Coll's split into "foundation stops" and "combination stops", with "masculine" and "feminine" denoting the character of a register. At the console, the "masculine" voices are arranged on the right side and the "feminine" voices on the left. There are some "hermaphrodite" stops that are assigned to both groups and hence appear on both sides of the console. Both these sections can be activated or deactivated through introduction pedals, which serve for . In the stoplist, they're indicated with an additional m or f. The organ was restored in 1964 by Alfred Führer Orgelbau and later in 2008 by Jehmlich Orgelbau of Dresden in an extensive restoration process.
