The Serassi family was a renowned dynasty of organ builders, originating from Cardano, a hamlet of Grandola ed Uniti, near Como, Italy. They were active for six generations from 1720 to 1895, primarily in Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont, and Liguria.

Giuseppe I, born in 1693, was the founder of the Serassi family. He began his career in Bergamo around 1720, where he installed the first known organ in the church of Madonna del Castello in Ambivere in 1723. Among his six children, Andrea Luigi (1725-1799) took on the role of organ builder, contributing to technical innovations and improving the tonal composition of instruments.

Giuseppe II (1750-1817), a genius in his craft, introduced original inventions to organ building, such as an underground mechanical transmission connecting organs placed in two opposing choirs. He also made significant advancements in mechanical and transmission systems. Notable among his works is the large organ at the Ducal Chapel of San Liborio in Colorno, Parma, featuring 2,898 pipes.

Carrying the family's prestige to its peak were Giuseppe II's sons, including Carlo (1777-1849), who earned widespread acclaim as a builder. Instruments crafted by the Imperial Regia Fabbrica di Bergamo became symbols of status for churches in major cities and peripheral areas alike. Giacomo (1790-1877), Carlo's brother, continued the legacy with the assistance of his nephews and skilled workers.

However, by the 1870s, the Serassi factory began to face crises. The departure of key personnel like Giacomo Locatelli signaled the beginning of a decline. Ferdinando II (1832-1894) collaborated with Casimiro Allieri (1848-1900) in Sicily, producing notable organs in Ragusa, Modica, and Chiaramonte Gulfi. Despite these efforts, Ferdinando II's death in 1894 marked the definitive end of the Serassi factory. Vittorio Serassi, representing the family, allowed the Locatelli family to incorporate the name "Successor to the old Fratelli Serassi firm" into their business name in 1895, officially closing the chapter of the illustrious Bergamo factory.
