Rainer Müller, born in 1961 in Traben-Trarbach, is a distinguished German organ builder. He founded and leads an organ-building workshop in Merxheim, Rhineland-Palatinate. Müller learned his craft with Claudius Winterhalter in Oberharmersbach and subsequently worked with Hugo Mayer Orgelbau in Heusweiler and Georges Heintz in Schiltach. His journeyman years took him to various workshops, including those of Gustav Cartellieri in Wittlich, Winterhalter, and Johannes Klais Orgelbau in Bonn. He passed his master’s examination in Ludwigsburg in 1992 and established his own company in Merxheim in March 1993.

Müller's workshop adheres to the classical principles of organ building without restricting itself to a specific stylistic period. It focuses significantly on the restoration and reconstruction of historical instruments. Notably, the workshop has restored numerous organs by the Stumm family of organ builders, as well as two organs by Johann Christoph Kohlhaaß from the 1760s and various 19th and 20th-century organs.

New organs are constructed with mechanical slider chests using traditional craftsmanship. They feature spundete Kanzellen (plugged cells) with removable valves, and the action is made from local woods and brass, while the registration mechanism uses oak swords and rollers with iron axles in wooden bearings. Besides managing and planning projects, Rainer Müller specializes in the intonation of the instruments. He is a certified restorer in organ and harmonium building and employs six staff members as of 2023.
