Manuel J. Rosales, Jr., born in 1947 in New York City, is an esteemed American organ builder known for his innovative synthesis of romantic and contemporary styles in his instruments. His workshop has constructed over 30 pipe organs, with some of his most notable works including the organs at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Rice University. Rosales gained significant recognition in 1987 with the creation of a bold tonal design for Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Portland, Oregon. The $1 million instrument is acclaimed as one of the great organs in the United States. In 1989, he built an organ for Mission San José in the early Spanish style, aligning with a broader movement among American organ builders in the 1980s and 1990s to design instruments that embrace the literature of their specific historical periods.

In 1995, Rosales collaborated with C. B. Fisk on a 75-stop organ for Rice University's Shepherd School of Music, which was designed to evoke the powerful tones of Aristide Cavaillé-Coll's works. Additionally, Rosales played a crucial role in the development of the organ for Walt Disney Concert Hall. He worked closely with architect Frank Gehry for two years to integrate Gehry's sculptural vision with the functional requirements of a concert organ. The organ was ultimately constructed by the Glatter-Götz Orgelbau company and installed in 2004, with Rosales completing the finishing and voicing process later that year.
